Pluto May Not be a Planet Anymore
August 13, 2006 – 10:54 pm
It all started 3 years ago when astronomers in California discovered a planet/large object in our solar system called Xena. This was to be our tenth planet. It was slightly larger than Pluto (1,490 vs. 1,422 miles in diameter) Many other astronomers claimed that it is not a planet. This has caused a big debate over whether or not Pluto is a planet, being smaller than Xena. The debate is to take place sometime this week in Prague. Almost 3,000 astronomers and scientists will be meeting there. There are 4 basic outcomes of the debate:
1) Pluto stays, and nothing else is added as a planet simply because of Pluto’s history as a planet.
2) Xena, Pluto and many other same size objects will join our solar system.
3) Pluto is no longer a planet.
4) Somthing else.
