OCZ Rally2 & Windows Vista Readyboost

2 weeks ago I bought a 2gb pqi flash drive for $30 from newegg.com. It was some garbage! It was slow, and it did not support Windows Readyboost.

What is this “readyboost” you ask?

Ready boost is a new feature in Windows Vista that allows you to use flash memory as RAM. Wiki. In a nutshell, it makes you computer faster.

Anyway, I returned the pqi and looked for a new, fast Readyboost compatible flash drive. I came across two things;

This website that shows all reports of compatible and incompatible flash drives, and
the OCZ Rally2. This drive had mixed reviews/reports, and due to its $20 price tag I decided to take a chance.

I recieved the flash drive today, plugged it in and it didn’t work with Readyboost(Although it was incredibly fast) After viewing online forums, various articles and what not I decided to format the drive in NTFS(rather than the FAT it came in) and now it works.

To format a drive in NTFS you do the following(NOTE: This WILL wipe all data on the drive);

Right click on the drive & click format

Select the folowing options and click start;

Now it should work!

Update: FAT 32 will also work. If you are going to be using a Mac also this is the path to be taken
